Four Square Reflections

This strategy will help students to: reflect on what they have read using guiding questions to prompt their thinking.

Implementation:

  1. After completing the focused instruction component of the lesson, students divide their page into four, drawing lines to make boxes.
  2. The teacher gives the students a prompt or question for each of the four boxes related to the skill that was modelled in the focused instruction stage.
  3. Students respond to the questions/prompts as the teacher circulates the room clarifying any misconceptions or identifying the level of understanding of individual students.
