This strategy will help students to:
- Prepare students to surface their own thinking processes as they learn and understand a new concept, skill or strategy
- Make thinking transparent
Implementation:
- Students are grouped by their instructional groups
- Students answer questions in their groups differentiated for their groups
- Students pause to explain their thinking including decisions they’re making about what to do next
- The teacher uses the Checklist for Assessing a Student Think-Aloud to identify their levels in comprehension, Content Knowledge and Evaluation (See example)
The teacher will take note of the qualities they do and do not exhibit
