Picture Process

Strategy:  Picture Process

Phase: Focused Instruction/Guided Instruction/Collaborative Learning/Independent Learning

Description: This formative assessment task requires students to use a visual representation and demonstrate understanding through the use of captions and a brief summary. This task shows comprehension, deeper understanding and ability to follow a process.

Implementation:

  • As students are doing a task the teacher takes a series of photos, or the teacher could present students with a series of pictures related to a process or characters/people or even an historical event.
  • Students are presented with 2-3 photos that represent a process.
  • Students are required to write captions for each photo (eg What is each character thinking/feeling? What is happening in this picture?)
  • Students write a short summary of what is occurring in each picture.
